> **Tracking required**
>
> Track the [Interest shown](/reference/event/types/engagement/interest-shown) event to feed data into this widget.

This widget shows the percentage of users who showed interest in any topic during the selected period, helping you measure how effectively your applications capture behavioral intent.

## Metrics

The chart includes:

1. **User interest rate**\
   The percentage of users who triggered the interest shown event at least once.

> **Question: What does the comparison over the last period mean?**
>
> It represents the growth or decline of the metric compared to the previous period.
>
> The *last period* refers to the date filter you selected. For example, if the filter is set to the **last 7 days**, the *last period* will be the **7 days immediately before that range**.

## Interpretation

Imagine that during the selected period, your applications had 10,000 active users in total. Of those, 2,500 users triggered at least one interest shown event. This means that 25% of your active users interacted with or showed interest in a topic.

We calculate this metric using the formula:

```math
User \space interest \space rate = \frac{users \space who \space have \space shown \space interest \space in \space something}{total \space active \space users}
```

### What the number tells you

Here are some common insights you can get from this widget:

- A higher percentage indicates that a significant portion of your active users is showing identifiable interests, meaning your current interest-tracking strategy is effectively capturing user intent.
- A lower percentage may highlight opportunities to improve how interests are captured, such as adding new Interest Shown triggers, enhancing content discoverability, or strengthening calls to action.
- Changes over time help you measure the impact of new content, UX improvements, experiments, or personalized experiences initiatives designed to increase engagement.
