# Total sign-ups

Track how many users create accounts on your applications.

> **Tracking required**
>
> Track the [User signed up](/reference/event/types/user-account/user-signed-up) event to feed data into this widget.

This chart shows the total number of sign-ups generated across your applications during the selected period.

We count a sign-up every time your application sends a sign-up event, usually when a user creates a new account.

Since this widget aggregates sign-ups from all applications, it helps you understand the overall effectiveness of your registration flow, value proposition, marketing initiatives, or onboarding strategy.

## Metrics

![Total sign ups widget](/assets/reference/analytics/workspace/total-sign-ups.png)

The chart includes:

1. **Total sign-up**\
The number of new accounts created during the selected period.
2. **Sign-ups over time**\
A trend chart showing how the number of sign-ups changed over time.

> **Question: What does the comparison over the last period mean?**
>
> It represents the growth or decline of the metric compared to the previous period.
>
> The *last period* refers to the date filter you selected. For example, if the filter is set to the **last 7 days**, the *last period* will be the **7 days immediately before that range**.

## Interpretation

This chart helps you understand how your overall sign-up activity changes over time. For example, after launching a marketing campaign, improving your registration flow, or updating messaging around account benefits, you can observe whether total sign-ups increased.

### What the number tells you

Here are some common insights you can get from this widget:

- A rising sign-up count indicates that your website is successfully encouraging more visitors to register, often reflecting improvements in UX, messaging, or acquisition channels.
- A decline may signal friction in the sign-up process, lower-quality traffic, or misalignment between value proposition and user intent.
- Monitoring the trend over time helps you understand how product updates, campaigns, or seasonal variations influence account creation across your applications.
